Brambles in June
25 June, 2023
A thicket of thrusting thorns,
A tumult of tangled tentacles,
Spiky stems snarling,
Vigorous, vicious,
Like serpents of Medusa,
Eager to ensnare the unwary.
But from a distance, disguised
With a display of beautiful blossom,
Soft white and pale pink
Like a delicate wild rose,
A visual feast for the eyes,
A nectar feast for the bees.
And each flower a promise
Of a real feast to come,
Blackberries galore
For crumbles and jam,
A rich harvest of ripe fruit,
Free for everyone.
