Flying Ants

Flying Ants (1)

9 July, 2023

Gulls circle greedily overhead
Feasting on summer’s sudden bounty –
The day the ants fly.

Flying Ants (2)

Newly-winged they emerge from underground
To fly high, high into the sky,
A few brief minutes of freedom found
To meet, to mate, and then to die.
