Jellyfish

Jellyfish

Poole Park Lagoon, 21st July, 2023

Like a submarine spaceship
Or a swimming saucer
Sailing serenely below the surface,
Gracefully flexing
From saucer to cup and back again,
Like an underwater dancer
Pulsing from pointe to pirouette,
Translucent tentacles trailing
To trap tasty treats,
Completely colourless apart from
Four white circles staring
Like four big white eyes.
I imagine it looking at me
But this wide-eyed creature cannot see.
I watch it sail slowly on
At peace in its watery world,
And I in mine.
